I would describe the aquatic ecosystem as in danger. These articles both describe ways that fund raising, advertising and research are helping better understand the state of our oceans and both are trying to raise the public's awareness on the issue at hand. Right now in these ecosystems species and communities are being threatened by things like, overfishing, and destruction of coral reefs. As far as my personal connection goes I hope to be a marine biologist when I'm older and the decreasing of these fish and coral reefs means that when I'm older I will have little to study and will most likely be working on projects more geared toward conservation efforts in the ocean. Humans play a very large part in the biosphere. They effect EVERY ecosystem including aquatic ones. We pollute the air, the land, and the water, which gets rid of nutrients that are essential to the food web.The limitation of important resources, whether it be the loss of detrivores, decomposers or producers can substantially effect the ecological pyramid. When this happens the habitat or even the ecosystem as a whole is greatly effected and species can eventually become extinct. We chop down forests, we drive our boats through coral reefs,we release toxic greenhouse gases into the atmosphere,we introduce foreign species that are predators and establish non-natural predator prey relationships! We do more hurt than help to all ecosystems. I think that we are just now starting to realize the impactsthat humans have on everything, unfortunately for some ecosystems there is no return and we have done irreversible damage to the biosphere. |
